Learn About Local Issues At This Free Library

Located right across the street from the Lexington County Administration Building is Lexington's Virginia Hylton Park.  Featuring everything from walking trails to playgrounds to picnic areas, Virginia Hylton Park is a beautiful asset to the Town of Lexington.  Within the park is an area called the Pat Jeffcoat Serenity Park.  Here is where you can find a free library filled with books and resources for patrons.

The LCSC is working with the park to ensure that educational materials are always available in the library.  These materials will be for people of all ages.  Currently, the library contains a variety of informational bookmarks and the following free items:

 

Coastal Heritage

Recommended reading level: ages 13 and up

This quarterly publication is produced by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium out of Charleston, South Carolina.  The Consortium is a science-based state agency that supports research, education, and outreach to conserve coastal resources and enhance economic opportunity for the people of South Carolina. Issues of Coastal Heritage are typically about 12 pages with a handful of articles regarding water and ecological issues in the state.

 

Little Seeds Pollinator Pals Activity Book

Recommended reading level: grades 3-5

Created by KidGardening, this nearly 40-page activity book is filled with information about a variety of pollinator species such as butterflies, bees, and bats! Each species highlighted includes fun facts, habitat information, plants they prefer, the life cycle, what we can do to help them thrive, and several activities such as coloring pages and word searches.

 

Saving Energy & Water: An Educational Coloring and Activity Book

Recommended reading level: grades K-3

The Stop, Look, and Learn line of coloring and activity books was created to educate and entertain children. It is recommended that parents/guardians participate with your child in discussing each topic. This 8-page booklet contains fun activities such as coloring pages, word scrambles, mazes, and information about how to save energy and water!
