ILLICIT DISCHARGE DETECTION AND ELIMINATION (IDDE): A GRATE CONCERN

The National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Permit (NPDES), authorized by the Clean Water Act, is a Federal program to control water pollution by regulating sources of pollution. It is administered by each state and enforced in South Carolina by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).

The Lexington Countywide Stormwater Consortium (LCSC), works to assure that each stormwater management program in Lexington County meets the short and long-term requirements of this Permit to ensure safe water for drinking and recreation for the citizens of our County. Now, you can easily help by reporting occurrences that you observe of pollutants being put into the storm drainage system to the Lexington County Land Development Department for investigation and elimination. This is important because stormwater does not go to a water treatment facility, but goes untreated directly into the local waterways.
