Lot Erosion Control Measures

Lot Erosion Control Measures for Construction Sites

Eroding construction sites are a leading cause of water quality problems. Stormwater becomes polluted when sediment-laden runoff flows from construction sites to downstream waterways. Controlling erosion through proper selection, installation, and maintenance of construction best management practices (BMPs) helps keep our waterways clean and saves time and money. Excess sediment may result in increase taxes, lower property values, poor fishing, nuisance growth of weeds and algae, polluted waterways, and dredging.

Erosion control can be easy. What you can do:

  • Preserve existing trees
  • Revegetate the site as soon as possible
  • Use silt fence
  • Place soil piles away from roads and waterways
  • Create diversions on slopes and around stockpiles
  • All vehicles use stock/rock access drive
  • Clean up sediment carried off-site by vehicles and storms
  • Install inlet protections
  • Use and maintain concrete washouts
  • Use downspout extenders
